I just read your comment on John Steppling's most recent post. Would you be willing to write more about depopulation and biopolitics and the rejection of the transcendent? That's something I've been wrestling with: The WEF crowd are monsters, but also my sense is that humanity must return to living within planetary limits.
Thanks for asking. I'd be happy to, and these, I think, are the predominant issues of our time.
Basically, my position is that we simply need to dismantle the entire industrial-technological system and the growth economy, and re-localize the network of production and consumption. And this brings us into a set of spiritual, aesthetic and philosophical issues as well as purely political, material and sociological ones.
But one question to be really tweezed apart is what living within planetary limits actually means. Especially fron the point of view of our current context of immense waste of resources and energy. Cuba is an often cited example, but it seems plausible that a transition to really effective localized self-sufficiency (with the aid of the best contemporary techniques and strategic trade) could very well support our current population,
I read that comment too. Just now remembering this commercial by Microsoft released at Easter 2020 https://youtu.be/eWw5F3jbOtE I saw it and thought it was absolutely sinister, particularly as “authorities” had closed churches. And here this new technological and utterly self-obsessed idea of looking at Maria Abramović forever, one would presume in place of. Brought to you by Microsoft and Christies
The NYT (laughing out loud) says Microsoft pulled the ad after outcry from “right wingers” and “conspiracy theorists”. WTF
Have you read utobian this am? He talks about switching from the theft model...orginally lands to natural resources to today the theft of our time and now our bodies/genes
Nope, but that's an astute observation I think. The extraction of surplus value from every conceivable pocket of remaining resistance. Do you have a link?

Brilliant, that's a perfect summary of the entire situation and its tendencies I think.
It's increasingly like a nightmare. Check this out:

And do tell me how to extract the spine from a turkey. :)

Yes and here we have the perfect set up for a long, slow kill of a significant portion of the population.
