Another little gem. So glad I found this blog. I was beginning to feel like the bleeding last of the Mohicans...

I do (when I do anything at all) flippantly or rabidly or both political cartoons. I'd like to send you the last one as it has a double bubble of political incorrectness, namely a CV19 wee beastie and Vlad the "Invader" in intimate lamenting exchange. It might make you smile and they say smiling is good for your dopamine levels.

Keep them coming!

Beautifully written. As a so called antivax i know how complicated could be subjects and how easily marketing slogans are made. I never had time to dive deep in ukrain subject (even people are asking me opinion because i grew up in ussr). I generally did not have a clue. So thanks for this short but very informative run through the conflict.

Thanks so much. Although this piece is flawed and only scratching the surface. This interview with my friend John goes into a bit more detail on the Cold War politics in the background:

Thanks Johan, for this clear view. Hard to come by here, in murky Amurka.

Thanks for the kind words. Very much the same situation over here. The propaganda is quite dense, and there's hardly a semblance of rational discourse.

Argument one; Ukraine has been always part of Russia. Counter argument; So, my homeland, Cuba, not only was part of Spain but was born from Spain. Do I want to be part of Spain today? One have to ask Ukrainians what they want today. Argument two; Ukraine is a geopolitical threat to Russia because is moving toward EU and NATO. Counter argument; For all post WWII (40 + years) Ukraine was Soviet and part of Warsaw Pact. Did Reagan invaded Ukraine then as Putin does today? Neither Russia nor US has a word on this. It is up to Ukraine. Should NATO invade Belarus because is moving toward Putin? Argument three; Donbass conflict, Russia has to protect its citizens. Counter argument; Such was the case of Germans living in the Suddette region in the Czech republic. Was Hitler right? The day Marseille has predominant Maghreb population that ask to join the caliphate of Algier, should France give up on its sovereignty? Argument four, the west is promoting revolutions and change of governments. Counter argument, Yes, the West did so and the Berlin Wall fell. This is the essence of what is going on in Ukraine. Putin does not tolerate democracy, not at home, not in Ukraine. Today's conflict is a conflict between democracies on God's side and autocracies on Satan's side. This is the final conflict of human history.

Which democracies might that be?

That is nonsense from start to finish, you have drunk deep at the well of whataboutery. Which of the many dozens of USA bases operating their protection racket around the world do you take instructions from Nicolas?

Incorrect presentation of history and motives of Ukrainian stand for independence! Ukraine was not part of Russia 1000 years back. Kiev Rus is the origin of Ukraine if to look 1000 years back, there was no Moscow at that time. Russia took up Ukrainian history and created a myth of brotherly nations. Ukraine is not considered in this assay as independent state, independent nation and independent history separate from Russia. All is viewed via angle of Russia. Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons in 1994 and supposed to have a security by the Budapest memorandum. That did not work. Ukraine lost independence in 1709 and since then fought for it under very heavy suppression of all Ukrainian traditions, language, everything. Yet, we stood and survived as a NATION. Of course, we want to have independence and security from RF. Ukraine is the state with 44 mln people. That is not just a geopolitical barrier or RF satellite state. The Orange revolution of 2004 and the Maidan of 2014 is not coup from US, but the will of Ukrainian people. First and foremost. It is too superficial to consider that all what is going in Ukraine is either influence of RF or US/NATO. Smaller states as Poland, Baltic states, even Finland know too well, what it means to have the boarder with RF. But nobody consider them as proxies of RF or US/NATO. Why Ukraine is so diminished?
