"This broad-spectrum opposition is in many ways is a sort of rag-tag movement with little in the way of a stable theoretical foundation upon which to mount a durable transformation of society"

You don't say! If the WEF crowd were to all keel over tomorrow, we the opposition would immediately start turning on each other.

And yes, it's been surreal watching all the angst about Twitter. It's been radioactive trash from the very first. There is no version of it that is not lethal to society and our individual inner lives.

Although I agree, what we may be seeing is the first stages of Caesarsim in the west. This is the predictable stage of late civilisational politics where all the forms of traditional governance are broken, corrupt and money rules. Armies don't so much fight for the state as for powerful families/individuals, compare and Crassus' eastern expeditions with the Biden family's Ukrainian effort. The Caesar actually aligns with the plebs against the corruption of the entrenched order, although the outcome isn't necessarily beneficial for the latter. Musk might be positioning himself unconsciously to take the lead when the opportunity appears.
