In reference to Adam's comment below, I, too, am a transcendent atheist. It's a strange phenomenon to feel a greater, infinite presence, to commune with a mystical power one can only call divine without belonging to organized ritual and dogma of a religious structure. Seeing the historical violence, discrimination and persecution of major world religions, especially Catholicism, I have an interest in why people in vast number turn to them, or any other -ism.
The last two years of mass ritual have shown how the public can be turned into believers, however atheist their tendencies, participating in the Holy Mass of Scientism, whose Communion was a Blood Ritual and whose Last Rites were toxic drugs and intubation in solitude within a plastic tent, a lonely end with utter loss of meaning or human connection.
I appreciated your essay immensely. You so eruditely pointed out the globalist technocrats utilitarian view of human life as completely devoid of the transcendent. In its pure essence, call it what you will, and in its structured social forms of religion, it is what they fear the most:
